What is Tabful?
Tabful is an Android app for splitting shared costs: trips, flats, couples, dinners. You add what each person spent, it works out who owes whom, and you settle up when you are ready.
Is Tabful free?
Yes. Splitting, groups, syncing, exports and settling up are all free; the free app shows small banner ads. Tabful Pro (₹99 a month or ₹999 a year in India, US$2 or US$24 elsewhere) will remove the ads and the watch-a-video limits. It isn't on sale yet.
Which phones does it work on?
Android today, available on Google Play. There is no iPhone version yet.
Do I need an account?
You sign in with Google or an email and password. That is what lets your groups follow you from one phone to another and lets friends share a group with you.
Do my friends need the app?
To share a group and see the same balances, yes. They join with a link, a QR code or a short code. You can also add someone by name before they join and merge them with their account later.
Does Tabful move my money?
No. Tabful keeps the books; the payment itself happens outside it. For UPI, Tabful opens your UPI app with the right amount and payee, and you tell Tabful whether it went through. It never assumes a payment succeeded.
What does “settle up needs approval” mean?
When you mark a payment as made, the other person gets a notification and approves it or declines it. Only then do both balances change. If you got it wrong you can withdraw it while it waits.
What happens if the other person declines?
Nothing changes. The balance stays exactly as it was, and the person who recorded the payment is told it was declined. They can talk it over and record it again.
Which ways can I split a bill?
Equally, by exact amounts, by percentages, by shares, or item by item with tax and tip added in. Every split is worked out in whole paise, so the parts always add up to the total.
Can more than one person pay for an expense?
Yes, in a group of three or more: choose several payers and say how much each put in. In a group of two it is simply a pick-one list, because only one of two people can have paid.
What about different currencies?
Each group has its own currency, so a trip abroad stays in that country's money. Tabful never adds rupees to dollars into one made-up total.
Does it simplify who pays whom?
Yes. Tabful works out the fewest payments that settle everyone in a group, so four friends are not each repaying every single bill. The “Fewer payments” demo on the home page shows it with real arithmetic.
How do I invite people?
Open the group and share its invite: a link, a QR code to scan, or a short code to read out. People who open the link land on a page that sends them to the app.
My invite code says it isn't valid
Codes are forgiving about spaces, lower-case letters and a missing “TABFUL-” at the start, so those are not the problem. Check the code character by character (newer codes never contain 0, O, 1 or I), or ask for a fresh one. You can also try it on our Join page.
Someone isn't on Tabful yet. Can I still add them?
Yes. Add them by name, record expenses as normal, and when they join later you can merge the two into one person so the history stays together.
Why does someone show as “Group member 1”?
Their phone hasn't shared their name yet. The name is looked up automatically as soon as they open the app, and until then members are numbered so ten unnamed people are not all identical.
How much will Tabful Pro cost?
₹99 a month or ₹999 a year in India, and US$2 a month or US$24 a year everywhere else. Google Play bills in your own Play country's currency.
When can I buy Pro?
Pro isn't on sale yet. Until it is, everything works for free with small banner ads, and the app shows a “notify me” button instead of a Subscribe button.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are managed in Google Play, not inside Tabful: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. The Tabful Pro screen has a Manage button that goes straight there.
How do I delete my data?
In the app: Profile → Security → Delete account. If you can't open the app, email us from your account's address. The delete-account page explains exactly what is removed and what other group members keep.
Does Tabful store my card or bank details?
No. Payments never go through Tabful. If you choose to share a UPI ID so friends can pay you, that ID is stored with your profile.
What does the app know about me?
Your name and email for the account, the groups and expenses you create or join, and the usual ad identifiers for the banner ads. The privacy page lists every item and why it is collected.
